Banjo Boy runs them ragged in the 2014 Cranbourne Cup
Banjo Boy (box one - $3.30) brilliantly won the 2014 Ken Hickey Concreting Cranbourne Cup in the stunning time of 30.03 for trainer Ken Virtue.
Coming into the race under an injury cloud, Banjo Boy put all fears to bed at box rise as he bounced straight to the front from box one.
A son of Vee Man Vane and Off Springer, Banjo Boy has been a highly regarded greyhound for much of his career, having competed in the Group 3 Shootout at Sandown Park among a number of impressive victories which have included a 29.01s run at Sandown and a 29.73s run at The Meadows.
After the race, Virtue was full of gratitude to all that have helped him with the greyhound along the way, commenting that the dog has brought his family closer together.
“The first vote of thanks has to go to my beautiful wife,” an emotional Virtue said “it’s such an honour to win this race and I’m really grateful to all the people involved with the greyhound.”
“The owner (Andrew Varasdi) has had unwavering faith in me with training the dog and I’m very thankful for that.”
Banjo Boy won the Cranbourne Cup in a time of 30.03 seconds, in front of the Darren McDonald trained Keybow (box seven - $6.80) and Jenny Hunt’s Nobby Bale (box eight - $31.90).
Banjo Boy’s career record now stands at 14 wins and nine placings from 27 starts, with the $43,750 first prize elevating his earnings beyond $110,000.
