Michael Patterson has decided to retire his star sprinter-cum-stayer He Knows Uno, following his disappointing run in last Saturday's Group 1 Zoom Top at The Meadows.
He Knows Uno retires having won 34 races from 82 starts and accumulating $476,724 in prizemoney, which places him ninth on the all time top prizemoney earning greyhounds in Australia.
The versatile chaser competed in 19 group races, with his highlight coming when he defeated a star-studded field that included Miata to win the 2012 Group 1 Macro Meats Gold Cup (710m) at Albion Park.
He Knows Uno burst onto the scene in 2010 winning eight races from the 16 races he competed in of that year.
Quickly developing a reputation for his flying finishes, He Knows Uno became a fan favourite following his remarkable win in a semi final of the 2011 Macro Meats Golden Easter Egg (520m), where he came from last to win.
The next week, He Knows Uno ran a gallant second behind Radley Bale in the Group 1 Golden Easter Egg final.
Later in 2011, He Knows Uno recorded his first Group race victory when he won the Group 3 Tattsbet Flying Amy (520m) at Albion Park. Then in October 2011, He Knows Uno took out the Group 3 Rover Mowers Cup (520m), once again at Albion Park.
He Knows Uno was rewarded for his consistent form throughout 2011 with a nomination for the Betfair Greyhound of the Year. He eventually missed out on the prize to Zipping Lad but took out the Run of the Year award for that remarkable effort in the Golden Easter Egg semi final.
In 2012, Patterson made the decision to transform He Knows Uno into a stayer. The move would prove a masterstroke, with He Knows Uno competing in nine Group races throughout the year, winning both Group 1 Brisbane Gold Cup and Group 3 AWM Electrical Distance Championship at The Meadows.
Once again, the son of Primo Uno and Honeymoon's Over was rewarded for his terrific form with a nomination for the 2012 Betfair NSW Greyhound of the Year, the winner of which will be announced at the Sydney Town Hall on Friday 1 March.
